Learn about our history, mission, and vision for advancing mathematical sciences in Nepal
The Nepal Mathematics Center (NMC) is a non-profit organization founded by mathematicians and researchers with the objective of enhancing the quality of mathematics education, strengthening research activities, and increasing public awareness of mathematics in Nepal. The conceptual foundation of the Nepal Mathematics Center was developed through a series of dialogues and informal discussions among eminent mathematicians.
The late Ram Man Shrestha, a distinguished mathematics educator, consistently emphasized the indispensable role of mathematics in education and society. His vision and dedication inspired a collective of educators, researchers, and mathematics enthusiasts to initiate systematic efforts toward advancing mathematics education and research in the country. This inspiration ultimately became the driving force behind the creation of a structured and professional platform devoted to the promotion of mathematics in Nepal. These meaningful interactions nurtured a shared commitment to institutionalizing mathematics advocacy and development. Guided by this collective vision, a significant meeting was convened on 23rd Magh, 2066 B.S. at Padma Kanya Campus, where a formal resolution was passed to initiate the registration process of the Nepal Mathematics Center.
After completing all required legal procedures, the Center was officially registered and recognized by the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, on 7th Bhadra, 2067 B.S. Subsequently, the first General Assembly of the Nepal Mathematics Center was successfully held on 26th Chaitra, 2067 B.S., organized by the ad hoc committee formed during the initial meeting. During this assembly, an Executive Committee was democratically elected to oversee organizational operations and provide strategic leadership for the Center’s future programs and initiatives.
